Snape is an attractive village in the heart of rural Suffolk which bridges the River Alde as it flows towards the coast some six miles away at Aldeburgh.

Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Aldeburgh, followed by Snape, first came to fame in 1948 when Benjamin Britten and his partner, tenor Peter Pears, established the world famous Aldeburgh Festival of Music and the Arts.  The first performances took place in local churches and halls, and were later hosted at Snape Maltings, impressive Victorian maltings converted into an elegant concert hall.  Snape Maltings now hosts concerts year round and is also home to nine shops, tearooms and a pub - The Plough and Sail - one of three pubs in the village, which also include The Crown Inn and The Golden Key.

Located alongside the River Alde, Snape Maltings also borders The Suffolk Wildlife Trust's Snape Marshes, a rich mix of wetland habitat, including reed beds and woodland which are a wonderful haven for wildlife and a joy for those who like to bird watch and walk.

Aldeburgh is very popular attracting many visitors, year round.  Its attractive high street, which runs parallel to the beach, sports pretty painted cottages, one of the UK's most popular fish and chip shops and a community-run cinema, established in 1919.  There are also a good selection of independent shops and restaurants.  Its golf course is reputedly one of the best in England and there is also a yacht club dating back to 1897.

Also in easy reach of Snape is the village of Wickham Market and the larger market town of Saxmundham, which is well served for shops and banks, as well as a hotel and several pubs and restaurants.  There's also a market every Wednesday.

Ipswich, Suffolk's county town, is just over half an hour's drive from Snape and offers a full range of high street retail names. With an extensive selection of pubs, restaurants and leisure facilities it is the counter balance to the quiet relaxation you will enjoy in your new home at Snape.

St Benedicts Place is ideally positioned for the best of all that Suffolk has to offer.  Located in the attractive village of Snape, it is a short drive from the picturesque seaside town of Aldeburgh, a few minutes from both the market towns of Wickham Market and Saxmundham and a half hour's drive from Suffolk's county town of Ipswich.

Snape enjoys an active community benefitting from Snape Primary School, judged as 'a good school with outstanding areas in its work' by Ofsted and other features which makes this highly sought after village attractive to families such as after-school childcare based at the school, a Parent and Toddler Group, Brownies, a very large playing field and a convenient village store.
