Wells-next-the-Sea is a traditional seaside town on the beautiful North Norfolk coast. A picturesque and historic town, it offers a sweeping beach stretching up to Holkham bordered by pine woodland, a harbour with small fishing boats, a varierty of shops and a tree-lined park with fine Georgian houses, quiet pubs and restaurants.

 With its salt marshes, sand dunes and pines, the area is famed for attracting a rich variety of bird life throughout the year. The wide beach is ideal for leisurely afternoons spent collecting shells and you can also spot oyster catchers and ringed plovers who nest on the beach, along with some common and little terns. Wells is the perfect base from which to explore the areas many delights. Holkham Hall is one of Britain's most majestic stately homes and is just a short drive away, while Royal Sandringham is just ove 20 miles from home.

 Although renowned for its colourful beach huts and beautiful sands, there's far more to Wells than meets the eye. Shoppers will love discovering the diversity of shops that nestle along the Quay, amongst the town centre's lanes and on the main shopping parade at Staithe Street. A haven for independent stores, you'll find an array of boutiques selling everything from buckets and spades to high-end clothes and designer gifts.

 The bustling Quay itself is a popular attraction for walking, crabbing or simply watching the fishing boats come and go and as you might expect, freshly caught seafood is a speciality in many of the local restaurants. The family run Wells Crab House Café serves up delicious homemade fare, but for something a little different, why not join the crew of The Albatross for food and live music on deck with views over the harbour beyond.

 In Holkham, the Adnams Cellar and Kitchen Store is set in an old school building and offers wine tasting as well as a huge range of kitchenware, while the nearby town of Fakenham promises a great shopping experience. Full of pretty buildings and meandering alleyways, here you can expect a busy weekly market as well as a popular farmers' market every month. It is also the home of the famous Fakenham Racecourse, which provides an exciting day out for people of all ages with its friendly, casual atmosphere.
