SUFFOLK COUNTRY GARDEN SET TO INSPIRE THE PUBLIC

An attractive traditional country garden has been specially designed to offer inspiration to amateur gardeners. The garden at Elmside Lea, a Hopkins Homes development, in Walsham le Willows, Suffolk, will be open for public viewing at this year’s Walsham le Willows Open Gardens Weekend which is being held on Sunday 24th August and Bank holiday Monday 25th August from 11am to 6pm. Now in its 28th year, the Walsham le Willows Open Gardens Weekend showcases 31 gardens, each open for the public to tour. Admission of £5 covers entrance to all the gardens and all money raised is donated to the village and the church for improvements and maintenance. There will also be an art exhibition and a village market selling fresh local produce, as well as refreshments and entertainment, which will be available throughout the weekend. Sue Hedger-Brown, consultant Landscape Architect to Hopkins Homes, comments: “In the new show house garden, which is open to the public at Elmside Lea I have used herbaceous plants, roses and shrubs to create a typical country garden. A tree, metal obelisks and willow trellis panels have been used to give immediate height whilst the planting establishes. The new show house garden links with a garden which we created in the winter where box hedging and shrub planting have been used to provide all year interest. I have designed both gardens so that people visiting can gain inspiration on what can be done in their own gardens using shrubs, flowers and simple features which can be obtained in Suffolk. The metal obelisks and bird table have been made by Suffolk craftsmen. Both gardens will be open to view on the weekend.” Elmside Lea comprises two, three and four bedroom houses and a two bedroom apartment in 16 different designs, arranged along quiet cul-de-sacs punctuated by leafy, green space. Each property has been designed to mirror features of the local architectural vernacular. Finishes including red and yellow brickwork, terracotta render and timber panelling combine to create a visually striking development. Interiors marry classic style with contemporary design of the highest quality. Purchasers can choose from a range of fully fitted custom built kitchens and worktops, subject to stage of construction. Visitors at Elmside Lea will also get the chance to view the brand new three bedroom show home which launches on Saturday 23rd August. The show home has been designed to reflect a contemporary country house and complements the garden perfectly. Walsham le Willows is located in the heart of the Suffolk countryside approximately 12 miles* from Diss and less than 14 miles* from Bury St. Edmunds. Both towns have a broad range of high street and boutique shops, restaurants cafes and bars and Bury St. Edmunds has excellent rail links to Cambridge, Ipswich and Norwich and beyond.
