First time buyers enjoying a new life at Mill Grove, Stowmarket
It has been a fantastic few months for first time buyers, Kye Strowbridge (23) and Callum Paddy (24), who have moved into their brand-new home in Suffolk.
The couple, who met while at university, recently signed on the dotted line for their first ever home together at Hopkins Homes’ Mill Grove development in Stowmarket, Suffolk.
Ahead of the completion day, Callum secretly asked for help from Hopkins Homes’ Sales Consultant, Jacqui Spicer. Jacqui, who is always looking to go the extra-mile for her customers, helped set up balloons and confetti so Callum could pop the question to Kye when they first set foot in their new home.
Thankfully, Kye said yes and the happy couple are now enjoying life at the popular Suffolk development.
Jacqui Spicer, Sales Consultant at Hopkins Homes, said: “When Callum asked for my help, I simply couldn’t say no. It is not every day you come into work and have the opportunity to play a role in an engagement proposal.
“At Hopkins Homes we always say we don’t just build houses, we create homes, and I am so proud to be a part of that ethos for Callum and Kye. We’re over the moon for the lovely couple and wish them all the best as they start a new life together.”
Callum works as a paramedic with the NHS East of England Ambulance Service and Kye is a paralegal, alongside studying for his master’s degree.
Callum said: “When Kye said yes it was absolutely amazing. I think Kye was shocked because he wasn’t expecting it at all. He thought this would be the first time either of us had visited since completing, little did he know, I had secretly visited the evening before with Jacqui to prepare. I was very nervous before proposing, but I’m so glad it went smoothly.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to Jacqui for making it such a special and memorable occasion.”
Following the surprise, the couple are now looking to plan their wedding later in the year.
The pair used the Government’s Help to Buy scheme to purchase the £340,000 property, with a 5% deposit (£17,000). The scheme lets buyers borrow up to 20% of the value of their property, or 40% if you live in London, and is designed to make home ownership more affordable for first time buyers.
Callum and Kye also ditched their favourite regular takeaways to save for the property – limiting them to just once a month. Plus, they swapped expensive days out in London for free weekend walks along Suffolk’s stunning coastline and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
As an added bonus, Hopkins Homes turfed the back garden on the property for free as a thank you to Callum for working for the NHS over the Covid-19 pandemic. The developer also put £500 towards the couple’s legal fees as a gesture of goodwill.
