Here’s the Hopkins home design guide for 2025.

Overview of themes and colours for 2025
Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in design, with more of us searching for responsibly sourced materials. Natural materials, especially wood, play a big part in this year’s schemes.
Longevity is an essential aspect of sustainable living; and we’re aiming for lasting style, rather than the interior design equivalent of “fast fashion”. Interiors experts are looking to the past for inspiration: which designs stand the test of time?
The twentieth century is a big inspiration, from Art Deco elegance to the practicality of Early Modern furniture. The earthy and rich palette also brings a retro feel to today’s interiors, and 2025 home colours are wonderfully warm.
We’ll take a closer look at a few of our favourite 2025 interior design tips.
Art Deco Style
Art Deco is such a beloved style that it keeps popping up in design and fashion every few years. The main look is sleek, glam and uncluttered, with rich colour blocks and metallic accents. It actually works very well in the blank canvas of a new-build home, as the architectural style is very clean and simple. Elements such as chandeliers and mirrored surfaces are sophisticated statements.
Easy ways to get the look
Add a popular Art Deco accessory, like a geo-patterned rug or a Tiffany lamp. Mirrors play a big part in Art Deco style, and if you’re lucky enough to find a second-hand drinks trolley or cocktail cabinet, you’re transported straight back to the previous twenties.
Earth tones
Burnt browns and scorched reds are teamed with creamier caramels and dusky pinks for a warm and inviting feel. This plays well with any darker wood furniture, provided it’s lifted with a few lighter and brighter accents, or perhaps a rich metallic like copper. If you want to feel enveloped by your decor when you come home, luxe fabrics in these tones are gorgeously welcoming.
Easy ways to get the look
Velvety or woollen throws and fluffy rugs in these shades are an easy way to adopt this palette. Warm lamps and ceramic ornaments and vases are useful accessories that will highlight the colour scheme.
Splashes of yellow
The other big splash on the palette for 2025 is yellow. This happy colour burst back in 2024, and naturally, in the spirit of longevity, we’re keeping it. Team it with blues for a rustic rural feel, or opt for upholstery with a yellow-gold background for an opulent effect. It’s a sunny shade that lifts moods: perfect for kitchens and living areas.
Easy ways to get the look
Not sure whether to commit to yellow this year? Start with a few cautious accents, such as scatter cushions or a throw. How does this make you feel, and does it work with the natural patterns of light and shade in the room?
Biophilic design
Or, to put it in simpler terms, lots of houseplants. We love this look: plants can be colourful, architectural or even edible, and they’re always mood-lifting. The idea behind this interior scheme is to bring a sense of the outdoors inside, so materials are natural (wood, wicker, stone) and colours are simple. Biophilic design works best in light and airy rooms; however, shade-loving plants can be a lovely way to bring colour and life to a naturally darker corner.
Easy ways to get the look
Start with a plant or two! Try a different way of presenting a plant, such as on a floating shelf or hanging basket. See how the look grows from there…
Cosy nooks
The latest version of hygge takes cosiness into corners. If you have a spare area, such as a landing, under-stair space or L-shape, turn it into a comfy little nook. Add a cushioned armchair, bookshelves and a warm-lit lamp, ideally on a small table where you can also pop your mug of hot chocolate. Finish with a sleepy cat. This could be just the thing that your busy life needs.
Easy ways to get the look
Creating a little sanctuary can be as simple as adding a chair and floor lamp in a corner of your bedroom. Take a look around your home. Is there a free space where you can pop a modest-sized armchair or beanbag?
Accent ceilings
Why stop at the walls? In 2025, the ceiling becomes the “fifth wall”. We’re not just talking paint, either: ceiling wallpaper and even upholstery literally brings a whole new dimension to a room. The very bold are “pattern drenching” by continuing the wallpaper upwards, while others soften this dramatic look by having painted walls and a papered ceiling.
Easy ways to get the look
The entry-level accent ceiling is simply painting the ceiling a different colour to the rest of the walls, rather than leaving it white or off-white as most of us do. You don’t have to aim for the Sistine Chapel (but don’t let us hold you back), just a nice, uplifting colour that draws the eyes upwards and changes the sense of the space.
